There is no harmless cancer that exists in medical science. But better treatment outcome is obtained in certain types of cancers that diagnose at an early stage. The highest 5-years relative survival rate is one of the key-feature of treatment benefits of cancer. The curable rate is high in breast cancer, testicular cancer, melanoma, thyroid cancer, prostate cancer, and Hodgkin lymphoma. But early diagnosis and stage of cancer both are important to treat these cancers. The risk of cancer spread to surrounding tissues and organs is high in an advanced stage.
Cancer signs may be removed through successful treatment. Clinically such cancer treatment outcome is termed as being in remission. But the recurrence of cancer can happen even after many years. Complete cancer eradication means the recurrence of cancer even after many years of treatment. However, no confirmed treatment cure yet is now discovered.
Breast cancer
Breast cancer at the stage 0 and 1 has 99 to 100 percent 5 –year survival rate. Therefore, breast cancer patients within these stages have the highest possibility to survive for at least 5 years without significant harmful effects.
The cancer stage depends upon the size and location of the cancer. The abnormal cell growth that remains in the breast tissue or lobules within the breast is referred to as stage 0. Doctors do not consider this abnormal growth as a cancerous growth at this stage. But this type of growth may be the early sign of cancer.
In stage 1 breast cancer, the typical tumor size lies within 2 cm. But abnormal growth does not spread to other parts of the body. In such cases, doctors start treatment to avoid more severe forms of cancer.
-
Prostate cancer
In stage 1 and stage 2 prostate cancers have a 99% of 5-year relative survival rate. The rate of cancer growth is very slow or growth is completely stagnant throughout the life span. Therefore, in such cases, prostate cancer does not hurt overall health. The treatment outcome is also better in the case of prostate cancer at the early stage. If prostate cancer growth is stagnant and doctors do not consider the condition as harmful for health, then in many cases no treatment is prescribed to the patient.
- Testicular cancer
The localized testicular cancer that is limited within the testicles has a 99% of 5-year relative survival rate. But the regional tumors that spread to tissues or lymph nodes close to the testicles have a 96% of 5-year relative survival rate. The common treatment of the early stages of testicular cancer is the surgical removal of either one or both of the testicles to treat the condition. Removal of testicles often gives better treatment outcomes. However, this type of treatment may not provide significant benefits in case of cancer spreads to other parts of the body.
- Thyroid cancer
Thyroid cancers at stages 1 and 2 have a 98% to 100% of 5-year relative survival rate. The thyroid is a gland in the neck that produces hormones to support healthy bodily functions. The thyroid cancer growth rate is slow. Therefore, doctors get more time to treat the condition. In some cases, the doctor recommends removing the thyroid gland even after it spread out in the throat and subsequent treatment can successfully eradicate cancer progressions.
-
Melanoma
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that has a 92 to 97% of 5-year relative survival rate at the stage of 1A and 1B respectively. The chance of early detection of melanoma is high as it changes the skin surface. After identification and immediate treatment interventions at the early stage of melanoma increases the survival possibility of the affected patients. But unidentified melanoma can spread to a deeper layer of the skin surface and makes it difficult to remove it.
- Cervical cancer
Cervical cancer at stages 0 and 1A have a 93% of 5-year relative survival rate. Doctors can start treatment immediately after the early detection. In case of cancer spread to other parts, then it is difficult to treat. But the growth of cervical cancer is very slow and doctors get time to treat the condition effectively.
- Hodgkin lymphoma
Hodgkin lymphoma at stages 1 and 2 has 90% a 5-year relative survival rate. The overall relative survival rate of Hodgkin lymphoma is high because radiation therapy provides effective treatment outcomes. Therefore, the possibility of survival rate is high for patients with advanced stages of Hodgkin lymphoma. But radiation treatment is effective for all other types of Lymphoma.
This can be concluded that the chances of complete cure from ant type of cancer are not possible. But the scope of remission is high with different types of cancer with early medical intervention.
